The Water Future at Surabaya

         Surabaya as the icon's second largest metropolitan city after Jakarta is currently faced with the crucial issue regarding the quality and availability of clean water. The future of water sustainability in Surabaya would be saved if the power of vision and mission as well as funding a unified whole. This paper is a reality that the writer saw a number of rivers in the city of Surabaya, such as: Kali Surabaya, Kali jagir, or brownish Kalimas which follows the making of waste floating in the river water quality is so poor town. While one side of the river water use is almost entirely to serving the needs of industry and households in the city of Surabaya. Sophistication of tools for me recycle sewage and waste water from an alternative is not enough to save water in major rivers in this town in order of fitness. Some time ago when I fill the tub, pungent aroma of the water that comes out so pronounced, the color is somewhat murky, and the precipitate appeared when the leave for a long time. So, no one would if it were a precursor to the emergence of diarrheal diseases and itching in the human body.            Actually, if we all be wise and wise to the above problem is certainly not enough to simply give sanctions for industrial / plant in its waste into the river. However, it also needs a more strategic efforts in saving water from the influence of natural changes, due to human behavior without being followed by the exploitation of natural reforestation by forest reclamation, for example. As a fraction of the Brantas River (rollag / dam Songo) in Mojokerto, the authors realized (with the help of the map) was the source of the Kali Surabaya is likely to come from the highlands of Mount Arjuna or Batu, Malang. If indeed her in the upstream region is necessary as soon as possible to make cooperation among all parties to save the forests in the region. Forests must be interpreted not simply a "drug" effective in protecting the natural ecosystems of its extinction of biodiversity, but how to position the forest as the last bunker on the availability of clean water in the dry season.

Mom Tri Rismaharani elected as mayor of the environment and its related parties in Surabaya City Government and other areas together in utilizing the Brantas River and Kali Surabaya to take immediate action in order to guarantee the availability of water is maintained. Doing so freed from the Kali Surabaya percemaran required decisive action and tight control over suppliers of waste (industrial / plant), thus not only a "tiger on paper", fierce in the rules / law but toothless in practice. Finally, the authors hope that the clean water crisis in the city of Surabaya in the future not to happen. The future of water in Surabaya will remain intact continuance when five or ten years from now we have started the change itself.
